British Chess Championships 2011 R8: Short, Adams lead

Here is the latest chess news from the 98th British Chess Championships 2011.

After eight rounds, the leaders are down to two - Nigel Short and Michael Adams. Both drew their game in the eighth round maintaining their joint lead but joint leader Gawain Jones had fallen back in the seventh round after losing to Short.


The 98th Darwin Strategic British Championships are taking in Ponds Forge, Sheffield, from July 25-August 6. Top seeds are Michael Adams, Nigel Short, David Howell and Gawain Jones, making this the strongest national championship in history. The Championship is also hosting events for seniors, U2000, U1800, U1600, U1400, British U16, U14, U13, U12, U11, U10, U9, U8, the Major Open, Five Day Open Weekenders and Rapid Plays. The highest rated woman chess player at the event - IM Jovanka Houska is trudging along with 5 points. You can access the official website at this link.
