Hello everyone,
A chess news report from Greece. The team of Peristeri has won the Greek team league chess championship for the second time with Vassily Ivanchuk on Board 1 and Judit Polgar on the women's board (!) which was Board 4.
Peristeri won six matches and drew one against S.O. Kavalas (with GMs Papaioannou, D. Antic and Skembris) who came second. Each team had eight boards which included 3 men, 1 woman, 2 junios and two girls. Each team was allowed to have two non-Greek members.
The Greek Team league ran from July 3-8 in Eretria which is about 100 km north east of Athens. It was a seven-round event with 34 teams.
Other strong players in the event included GMs David Navara (2722), Arkadij Naiditsch (2706), Peter Heine Nielsen (2681), Viktor Bologan (2678), Viktorija Cmilyte (2528), Antoaneta Stefanova (2524) and Pia Cramling (2472).
