A lot of things about chess excite me: Boris Gelfand

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hi everyone,

Find great photos of the champion and other
top chess players of the world at www.chesspics.com.

A lot of things about chess excite me, says World Chess Title contender Grandmaster Boris Gelfand. He says,"Looking for ideas, looking for great games that other players have played. Chess is a magnificent game. It's at the border of art, science and sport. Introduced to chess by his father, Gelfand says he devoured a book on chess and didn't look back thereafter.

Asked about being nervous during a match, the grandmaster says, "If you get nervous, you have to control your nerves better than your opponent controls his."

Gelfand is looking forward to playing Anand, whom he called a very formidable opponent. "It's a big challenge and a big honour to play such a world championship match. A lot of players fight for it their whole career. Some succeed. Some not. I am very privileged that I succeeded.

Gelfand also says the great games of chess live forever. He says, "There are some masterpieces that will last for years like a music composition or an art picture."

I couldn't agree with Gelfand more. All the best for the upcoming championship to him.
