Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011
Hi everyone,
For those following the Dortmund Chess Tournament here is some fresh chess news. Vladimir Kramnik - wit a perfect score for two rounds - decided to split the point with Le Quang Liem in the third round. However, Ruslan Ponomariov won his second game in a row to beat Hikaru Nakamura with black and Anish Giri beat Georg Meier. The 39th Sparkassen Chess Meeting is taking place from July 21-31, 2011 in the City Theater of Dortmund, Germany. Like Biel, it’s a 6-player double round robin event. This year Vladimir Kramnik, Hikaru Nakamura, Ruslan Ponomariov, Anish Giri, Le Quang Liem and Georg Meier play. For the second time Dortmund uses an anti-draw rule: the players are not allowed to offer a draw during the game. The game will be declared a draw when a win for either side is not possible any more, or in case of a three-fold repetition.
The standings after 3 rounds have Kramnik at 2.5, Ponomariov at 2, Liem and Giri at 1.5 each, Nakamura at 1 and Meier at 0.5. You can access the official website at this link.
Here are the nice games of Round 3. Enjoy.
