Hi everyone,

Congratulations to Armenia for winning the World Team Chess Championship 2011. They played steadily throughout the tournament and took the top honours ending the final round with a draw against Ukrainian team, in Ningbo, China, on Tuesday. Armenia had an unbeaten run in the tournament that saw the world’s 10 leading chess nations in action.

Hosts China got the silver after beating Hungary in the final round while Ukraine got the bronze. Russia finished fourth on best tie-break with India defeating them in the last round and dashing hopes of a medal-finish.

The Armenian team included Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian, (reserve player) Robert Hovhannisyan and coach Arshak Petrosian who notched up victories against Israel, Egypt, China, India, Hungary and draws against Russia, the United States, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. Meanwhile, here are some nice games from Round 8 and 9. Enjoy.
