ReplyDeleteBobby Fischer – Mark Taimanov
ReplyDeleteChess clocks with flags on top. The venue is 1966 17th Chess Olympiad La Habana, Cuba. So if Che is watching it must be a board from the Cuban v Belgian tie which decided who progressed in 2nd place from their group to the finals.
ReplyDeleteMy guess its Ortega v Boey. So Boey (Bel) is playing black. Che is next to him and Ortega (Cuba) has his back to the camera. The other two standing are probably one Cuban and one Belgian player who have finished their game.
Che Guevara and Taimanov at the 1964 Capablanca Memorial in Havana
ReplyDeleteIt is probably from the 1964 Capablanca Memorial. There a somewhat famous meeting took place between Taimanov (facing camera) and Che (beret). The three (the third was Smyslov) were discussing a game when the photo was taken.
ReplyDeleteThe man with the black beret is OSAMA BIN LADEN.

Yes, the above is correct. See: http://www.chessintranslation.com/2011/02/mark-taimanov-at-85/
GMs Mark Taimanov and Larry Evans.the bloke in the beret is Dr Che Guevara.
ReplyDeleteİ'm agree with the last comment, these are, from the left- Tajmanov, Che Guevara and Spassky. The photo is from the 1964 Capablanca Memorial.
ReplyDeleteTaimanov & Vasily Smyslov w/ Che Guevara - game was a draw at Capablanca Memorial Tournament in Havana?
ReplyDeleteI recognize Kasparov and Che Guevara, who is the other chess plyaer?
ReplyDeletejoe biden and barrack obama
ReplyDeleteI think this was the 1966 Olympiad in Havana. Che of course looking on but the players are harder to identify. Mark Taimanov most likely but only the back of the other is visible so difficult. We would have to research all taimanov's opponents in the Olympiad and I'm not geeky enough to do that. Taimanov was allegedly a concert standard pianist as well as a top GM until Fischer wiped him out in the 1971 zonals for the world championship.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't recognize the players, but that guy wearing the Queen hat in the background looks familiar!
ReplyDeleteTal and Spassky?
ReplyDeleteThe 3 Stooges, Moe, Larry, and Che??
ReplyDeleteReagan Kee says: It's Petrosian playing Black, Taimanov playing White, Guevara standing.
ReplyDeleteHavana 1964 III Capablanca Memorial: 2nd round Evans,Larry-Taimanov,Mark. Che Guevara is watching.
