Hi everyone,

A chess news report from Manila states that The Philippines has become the first country to officially endorse the inclusion of chess in the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Russia. "Chess is a legitimate sport played internationally and its inclusion is long overdue," said Olympic Committee member Cojuangco.

He said The Philippines chess team in the open section proved second only to the Chinese men's team in the Asian team event.

Meanwhile, Fide president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said 50 IOC members had already vouched for the support to chess for inclusion in the Olympics but The Philippines was the first to put it on paper. You can read the full report at this link.
