Hi everyone,
A champion's namesake, Tigran L. Petrosian has won the Villa Benasque Chess Open 2011. A total of 444 players from 33 chess federations took part in this event - the 31st edition - that was held from July 7-16 in Spain. The tournament boasted of 35 grandmasters and 32 International Masters.
In fact, five players went into the last round tied with 7.5 points each but it was GM Petrosian who pulled off a full point for the title at 8.5 points. Six players tied for the second spot.
