AAI GM Chess Final report: Caruana wins title, Sasikiran second

Hi everyone,
Italian grandmaster Fabiano Caruana was assured of at least a joint title win despite his first loss in the tournament to second seed Viktor Laznicka in Round 9. Eventually, in the final round on Saturday, in the Indian capital city of New Delhi, he pulled of a nice draw with Wesley So of the Philippines to win the event.
In second place was Indian grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran who had drawn with Parimarjan Negi in the ninth round and hou Yifan in the tenth round. On the final day, the third game between Negi and Viktor Laznicka of the Czech Republic was also a draw.
The winner Caruana received the trophy from Mr. V P Agrawal, Chairman of the Airport Authority of India, and also the first prize of $ 8,000. Sasikiran’s winnings were $ 6,000 for the tournament. The third to sixth finishers received $ 4,000, $ 3,000, $ 2,000 and $ 1,500.
The results (ninth round): Viktor Laznicka (Cze, 5) bt Fabiano Caruana (Ita, 6.5) in 40 moves; K. Sasikiran (Ind, 5.5) drew with Parimarjan Negi (Ind, 3) in 48 moves; Wesley So (Phi, 4.5) drew with Hou Yifan (Chn, 2.5) 47 moves.
