Former Fide World Chess Champion Ruslan Ponomariov is leading the Ukrainian Championship in Kiev after 8 rounds. He remains undefeated so far with a score of 6/8 and a 2830 performance rating. Pavel Eljanov, Zahar Efimenko and Alexander Moiseenko are close behind.
The 80th Ukrainian Championship is taking place from June 10-21 in The Ukrainian House in Kiev. With an average Elo of 2650.0 it’s the strongest Ukrainian championship ever, with three players above 2700 and six above 2600. The rate of play is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves plus 30 minutes to end the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1.
