Hi everyone,

The Fide rating list is going to see two changes from July 1, 2012. Not only will the rating floor go down to 1000 Elo points but also the rating list will be released every month! The decisions were taken at the Fide presidential board meeting that was held in Al Ain, UAE. The meeting adopted the recommendations of the Qualification Chairman and Rating Administrator. The Fide ratings are moving closer to the live top lists supported by Dambi at http://chess.liverating.org/ and GM Naiditsch at http://chess-evolution.com.

The Presidential Board meeting was held in Al Ain under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation. The meeting was hosted by the Continental President for Asia, Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nehyan.

Following the closing of bids for the World Senior Championships and World Amateur Championships for 2012, the Board considered the various bids and decided to award both events to Greece. The Women’s World Team Championship 2013 would be organised by Turkey, alongside the World Team Championship.

The closing dates for bids for the World Championship Match 2012 and the Women’s World Championship Match 2011 were extended to July 31st and June 15th respectively. Proposals for both events were under consideration by potential bidders.

It was noted that all six events for the Women’s Grand Prix 2011-2012 had been agreed and that the first event would be held in Rostov, Russia in August. You can read more details at the official Fide website.
