Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hello everyone,

GM Magnus Carlsen is cruising along at the Kings Chess Tournament in Medias, Romania, even as all three games in the eighth round were drawn - fighting draws at that. Two more rounds are to be played with the last round between Carlsen and the second player which is Sergey Karjakin.

The Kings Tournament is taking place from June 11-21 at the Natural Gas Documentation and Information Centre in Medias, Romania. Magnus Carlsen, Vassily Ivanchuk, Sergey Karjakin, Hikaru Nakamura, Teimour Radjabov and Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu play a double round-robin with one rest day after five rounds. The rate of play is 2 hours for 40 moves, then 1 hour for 20 moves and then 15 minutes to finish the game, with a 30-second increment after move 60. No draws are allowed before move 30. Round 9 starts at 15.30 local time (14.30 CET); round 10 starts at 13.30 (12.30 CET). You can access live broadcast of games at the official website.

For now, here are the nice games and videos. Enjoy.

Carlsen it would be. What a pity that we won't see a world chess championship with Carlsen vs Anand - taking nothing away from either Gelfand or Anand but maybe we would still witness something like Gelfand vs Carlsen or Anand vs Carlsen this decade for the world title. Maybe.
