Chess for a Cause event in Taguig City with Filipino GMs

Hello everyone,

According to a press release a special 'Chess for a Cause' event is being organised in Taguig City. Grandmaster Wesley So and four other Filipino GMs will compete in the event based on a two-day rapid format at the Philippine Army Gymnasium in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.

Wesley So just shared first with GM Anish Giri at the 2011 Siegman chess championship and is the top seed in the Artillery Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. (AFPI)-organised fundraising tournament that will benefit the groups scholarship program for its members and dependents.

Other GMs that will join so in the tournament, co-organized buiy the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE) and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), are Asian Zone 3.3 chess championship runner-up Mark Paragua, Pichay Cup titlist Darwin Laylo, Joey Antonio and John Paul Gomez. All active members of the three branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) – the Army, Navy and the Air Force – and the Philippine National Police are also taking part in the two-day event.
