Robson to play instead of Korchnoi in Saint Louis quad chess tourney

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hello everyone,

Ray Robson has replaced legendary Grandmaster Viktor Korchnoi for the May 16-24 four-GM Match scheduled at the Saint Louis Chess Club. Now it will be Nakamura vs. Ponomariov, Finegold vs. Robson: in the ten-game match that is to take place May 16-25.

Ray Robson
GM Korchnoi withdrew due to health reasons which are thankfully nothing to worry about but just prevent him from travelling abroad.

The other match in the quad 10-game match (six classical, four rapid) is between St. Louis Grandmaster (GM) Hikaru Nakamura, ranked No. 7 in the world, and GM Ruslan Ponomariov, ranked No. 11 in the world.

All four players will take part in a live, virtual press conference at 10 a.m. CDT on May 16. Journalists and fans from all over the world can log onto livestream.com/uschess to submit questions to the players and watch their answers streamed live online.

Robson, 16, became the youngest grandmaster in U.S. history in 2009 when he was just 14. "My opponent just got 65 years younger!" joked Finegold.
