Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011
Hi everybody,
Goddesschess recently sponsored prizes for female chessplayers in a couple of local/regional chess events:
2011 Grand Pacific Open
The 2011 Grand Pacific Open (played over Easter weekend in Victoria, British Columbia), where a chess femme not only won the tournament and took home first prize, she did so with a perfect 6.0/6 score! The main event was convincingly won by WGM Nino Maisuradze with a 6-0 score with wins against most of the highest rated players. Coming in with 5.5 points for second place was Vancouver junior Loren Brigham Laceste who despite his A class rating, took out a number of masters and experts. You can read more here.
Hales Corners Challenge
They also sponsored prizes for the Hales Corners Chess Challenge in Milwaukee, Wisconsin since Challenge VIII. Two Challenges are held a year, in April and October. Goddesschess recently completed Challenge XIII held on April 16, 2011 with the best yet turn-out of female players, with Goddesschess prizes of $40 for each win and $20 for each draw scored by a female player in the Open - regardless of rank or standing, and payment of entry fee in the next Challenge for top female finishers in the Open and Reserve Sections. The Hales Corners Challenge is a USCF Grand Prix event worth 10 GP points. You can read more here.
