Thailand Chess Open R7: Gustafsson, Vallejo in joint lead
Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011
Hi everyone,
Paco Vallejo and Jan Gustafsson lead jointly at the 2011 Thai Chess Open in Pattaya with two rounds to go. Gustafsson beat overnight leader Nigel Short while Vallejo beat Chinese International Master Yang Kaiqi. There are four other players who are half a point behind the leaders.
Thailand's top player Wisuwat Teerapabpaisit also moved up in contention for a prize by defeating Russian International Master Alexey Romanov. Also doing well is 15-year-old Warot Kananub. The Thai Open, with a prize fund of 500,000 Baht, is being played at the luxury Dusit Thani Resort and continues until Sunday, with round 8 beginning at 2pm local time on Saturday. Games may be followed live here. (We've updated the link as listed on the official website. Hope they upload the live player!) You can access the official website here.
