Hi everyone,

Remember the first time you fell in love... with chess? Can you ever forget the feelin'? So, no matter where you are and how far, the moment you see news of someone, somewhere falling in love with chess, you smile and feel happy. Like the first time, all over again.

We are happy for all the chess people of Kensington and Chelsea area. They've got a brand new public chess set inaugurated and are going to have classes with grandmasters every weekend. Wow! You can read the full news here. We're imagining all the fun that's ahead.

The idea of bringing a giant chess board to Holland Park was suggested by borough resident and chess enthusiast Jason Kouchak, with the backing of novelist and neighbour Joanna Trollope.

Giant chess board officially opens

Players of all ages have been squaring up with a giant chess board in Holland Park. The board is available to use every day, with a weekly masterclass from a different Grand Master every Saturday for children keen to learn the game. The official opening took place on Saturday April 9, with the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor James Husband, leading the ceremony. Mr Husband said: "I am delighted to mark the official opening of this chess set.

There's a heaven...

"It offers a wonderful opportunity for children to learn from world class experts in the field, and offers everyone a chance to enjoy a good game of chess in the summer." The council-owned chess board is located between the Dutch and Napoleon Gardens in Holland Park, and players of all ages are welcome.

In good weather, it will be free to play on every day, and in the event of bad weather, children can continue to play in the Adventure Playground hut nearby. For more information, contact the Park Reception office on 020 7471 9813.

Folks have fun. All of you out there, don't forget to send us your news of chess too. Get a giant chess in your neighbourhood and tell us about out. :)

  1. I love chess. My dad used to be a national champion in South Africa in the 1960's. It takes lots of practice and patience. Like all games there are a few tricks to it.

  2. A few tricks... ;-) indeed quite a few! Have been learning and playing chess for over 20 years and I'm still learning new tricks every day! There is an infinite number of tricks at chess, or at least it seems to be so, which makes chess so much fun! No way to get to the end of it!
