GM Szabo wins 28th Victor Ciocâltea Chess Memorial

Hi everyone,

GM Gergely-Andras-Gyula Szabo has won the 28th Victor Ciocâltea Memorial with a clear first in these days of ties all around!

The 28th Victor Ciocâltea Chess Memorial was held in took place from March 25th March to April 4 at Hotel Olimpia in Bucharest, Romania. Twelve players, 7 Romanians and five from abroad, competed in the round robin tournament.


GM Szabo

GM Gergely-Andras-Gyula Szabo finished with eight points in 11 rounds while IM Marcin Tarbaz and GM Vadim Shishkin shared the second place.

Victor Ciocâltea was Romanian Champion in 1952, 1959, 1961, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1979. He played for Romania in eleven Chess Olympiads from 1956 to 1982. This tournament is held in his memory.
