Top seed in New Delhi - GM Areshchenko Alexander.
Hello Everyone,
One of India's most well-known chess open tournaments, the 9th Parsvnath International began with two interesting upsets in New Delhi on Satuday.
Youngster Chinmay Kulkarni beat Uzbekistan Grandmaster Marat Dzhumaev and Zeng Chongsheng of China outwitted fourth seed Austrian Grandmaster Markus Ragger. GM Marat has played all the nine editions of the tournament so far and began with a loss for the first time.
Top seed Grandmaster Areshchenko Alexander of Ukraine sailed along with a win over Intenational Master P Karthikeyan, while sixth seed and leader of the Indian challenge in this tournament, Parimarjan Negi made short work of Vikramaditya Kamble. Grandmaster Henrik Denilsen of Iceland was also held to a draw with Indian youngster G V Sai Krishna. More than 400 players from 17 countries are taking part in the event.

You've always got to play carefully in India. In fact, many chess players avoid playing in India because we have very strong youngsters and older people who never really take up chess professionally or even if they do, they are usually playing only in India because of financial reasons. So, actually, we're very strong. Am looking forward to Parimarjan Negi's games. he's playing at home after all and is now the current national champion.
ReplyDeleteSomehow it's like Anand has been so great that we tend not to notice anyone else in chess in India. He is the sun so we are blinded towards everyone else in India.
