Endgame contest from Tata Chess and Studies Day announcement

Hi Everybody,

Via www.chessvibes.com we have Yochanan Afek fantastic endgame study. Chess lovers from all over the world are invited to solve this study and send in the solution by mail (via the tournament website) or to the solutions box at the entrance of De Moriaan by Friday, January 28th at 15.00 CET. You should write all white and black best moves up to an evident draw and add your name, e-mail and postal address. 5 chess books will be awarded to the first correct solutions to be drawn. Good luck!

Tata Chess and Studies Day


The second international Tata Chess and Studies Day will be held on Saturday, January 29th 2011 in De Moriaan in Wijk aan Zee (The Netherlands) as part of the Tata Steel (formerly Corus) Chess Tournament and in collaboration with the Alexander Rueb Association for Endgame Study (ARVES).
Current solving world champion GM John Nunn (England), former solving world champion (currently deputy champion) GM Piotr Murdzia (Poland) and Alina l’Ami, the wife of GM Erwin l’Ami, have already confirmed their participation. The chief arbiter is Luc Palmans (Belgium).
Schedule

  • 10.00-10.45: Informal meeting and registration
  • 10.45: Official opening
  • 11.00 – 14.00: International Open Solving Competition of original studies with a prize fund of 750 Euros and book prizes. Special prizes will be awarded to the best newcomers and youth solvers.
  • 14.00 – 17.00: Watching live the penultimate round of the world’s most famous chess tournaments with GM commentary.
  • 17.30: Prize giving and presentation of the solutions.

Entry fee: 15 Euros; juniors (u-20) 10 Euros; GMs and IMs – free.
