Hello Everyone,
The 16th Asian Games team chess event has been quite exciting. The Philippines men's team and the Uzbekistan women's teams have beaten the higher-rated Indian men's and women's teams in the semifinals in Guangzhou, China.
The other finalist is China who beat Iran in the men's section and Vietnam in the women's section. The games are being broadcast live at www.asia-chess.com. You can also find more news and details at www.fide.com.
The Chinese stormed into the finals as their men's team beat Iran 2.5 - 1.5 with Wang Hao winning his game against Mahjooob Morteza as all the other boards ended in draws.
In the other other Semifinals, Philippines beat India 2.5 - 1.5. despite Wesley So losing to Harikrishna on the top Board. GM Rogelio Antonio Jr. beat Sasikiran on board two. Asia's first Grandmaster, Eugene Torre, beat Gopal on board 4 while GM John Paul Gomez drew with Ganguly.
In the women's division, Uzbekistan beat India 2.5 - 1.5. with Harika (India) winning the top board battle against Muminova Nafisa and Tania (India) drawing her game. Uzbekistan's victory came through Hamrakulova Yulduz & Nodirjanova Nodira who won their games.
Chinese also defeated Vietnam 3.5 - .5, the only board to end in a draw was between WGM Ju Wenjun (China) and WIM Pham Le Thao Nguyen of Vietnam. Hou Yifan, Zhao and Huang Qian won their games.
China will take on the Philippines in the men's section and Uzbekistan in the women's section in the finals. For the Bronze medal, India will play Iran in the men's section and Vietnam in the women's section.
