Before you've got over our previous post on the romantic chess couple Pattinson-Stewart, we thought we'd tell you about Carlsen's romantic life too (wink) - thanks to a quote from his dad!
Carlsen’s Father has said: I don’t care about Carlsen winning the World Championship as much as him enjoying his happy life and finding love.
Carlsen’s father—Henrik Magnus - speaking about the Carlsen's performance at the Pearl Spring Nanjing Super Chess Tournament said Carlsen is doing a good job until now and he only wants his son to live a happy life and enjoy his romance in the future.
When Carlsen was five years old, his father tried to teach him to play chess. However, Carlsen didn’t show great interest in it, as a result, his father thought he had no gift for playing chess.
However, when Carlsen beat his elder sister as an eight-year-old, things changed a bit. Carlsen’s father says parents must be very patient with their children and see what they are interested in.
Carlsen is also very interested in geography, history, news and political issues. He likes to read books regarding American’s presidents particularly. However, he spends much more time in playing chess and as a result; he can’t keep the balance between his study and chess-playing.
Carlsen’s father will show respect to his son’s choice if Carlsen decides not to play chess any more. And his father said, “It is his own life and he has the right to determine his own fate.”
When asked the question whether it will affect Carlsen’s romance with girls since he accompanies Carlsen, he said, “As a father, I am always looking forward to his happy life and want him to fall in love with girl who he really likes as other youngsters. After all, it is one of the important parts in his life.”

How cute. All parents should be like that. I am a teacher and I always give the example of Carlsen's father to my students' parents. Very well said.

Very well said. Parents should never push kids to do anything particularly these days we see parents pushing them to to take up studies in Chemistry or Physics or other things. Then there is too much peer pressure also these days what with Internet and television. Carlsen is a good role model for young people and now his father should be a good role model for so many parents out there. Well said. Thanks for sharing Alexandra.

It's better that Carlsen focus on becoming World Champion just now and can think of finding love afterwards. That ways his relationship won't suffer any pressures otherwise he will not be able to give his girlfriend that much time. This is experience speaking ha hah. :)

Do know what the dad is so worried about. Most average grandmasters have their pick of WGM, WIMs, let alone world no1 super grandmaster. Get yourself a nice women chess player, there are enough of them at tournaments, just take your eyes off the pieces for once and look around you my man. Get it sorted!
