Defending champion Magnus Carlsen
Hi Everyone,
Do you know that an international chess event that has been held since 1938 has been renamed? Though, of course, the chess fun remains the same!
We are talking of the 73rd Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2011 that will take place from January 14 to 30. It will be held in the traditional 'De Moriaan' venue in Wijk aan Zee. It used to be named after Corus which was bought by Tata Steel. You can read more about the name switch here.
Confirmed players that will take place in the Tournament include World Number 1 Magnus Carlsen (defending champion), reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand and his predecessor Vladimir Kramnik. The composition of the A-Group is expected to be finalised soon.
The start for the registration for the amateur groups is on November 1, 2010. The official website for now is http://www.coruschess.com/. A tatasteelchess.com website is also under construction.
