Hello Everyone,
The London Evening Standard discontinued a tradition that had gone on for over 50 years. This Monday they stopped Leonard Barden’s chess column in their print edition which would henceforth appear only in the online edition of the newspaper. You can read about it here.
Meanwhile, however, Barden's 'world-record holder' chess column in The Guardian continues. On Christmas, in 1999, the sports pages of The Guardian notched up a world record. They published the weekly Leonard Barden chess column continuously for for 54 years.
"I have never missed a week in 54 years, and as a result the Guardian undisputably holds the world record for the longest continuous chess column of (currently) 54 years 3 months," said Barden.
