Peace Corps looking for a chess coordinator!

The picturesque St. Lucia

Hello Everyone!

Here is an interesting chess-teaching opportunity that is doing the rounds of the Internet. None other than the Peace Corps itself is looking for a chess coordinator for Saint Lucia. They have listed the job as part of their community and youth development program. The job begins in August for a full year.

On their official website, the Peace Corps states "It is obvious that the country would benefit from a giant infusion of self-discipline, strategic thinking, and increased self esteem. Surprisingly, the beginning of change for this small country of 150,000 people and 238,000 square miles may be connected to a classic game. The needed change may start with the children who take to the game with unbelievable enthusiasm and then spill over to the tight knit communities where they live. The game is chess."

Surely, that's something great for all chess lovers! Chess indeed is the international language for peace, development, discipline and more.

Some of the qualifications for the job are listed as:
  • Ability to play chess at an intermediate level and communicate effectively with adults and children
  • Familiarity with program evaluation methodologies
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience in teaching or training
  • Understanding of basic tactics and strategies of chess
  • Familiarity with chess tournaments
You can check the official website for all the details.
