Zdenko Krnić 1947-2010

It is sad that Chess Informant's Editor-in-chief Zdenko Krnić has passed away after being the victim of a hit-and-run accident caused by a reckless motorcycle driver. He suffered serious injuries and head trauma.
He died at the Emergency Center hospital in Belgrade on Friday, July 23, without regaining consciousness. Krnić was 62, and a Belgrade resident.
Zdenko Krnić was Chess Informant's Editor-in-chief from 1996, and the Director from 2001 until his untimely death. Under Mr. Krnić's stewardship Chess Informant's publications maintained their trademark quality, recognizable by chess players all over the world.
Zdenko Krnić had many friends among the greatest players of our time, and was a loved and respected member of the global chess community. During his brief chessplaying career Mr. Krnić became an International Master and the Yugoslav vice champion in Skender-Vakuf, 1980.
Mr. Krnić is survived by his wife Zdenka and two sons, Bojan and Goran. The Chess Informant Editorial Board and colleagues extend deepest condolences to the family for their great loss.

Alexandra, I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Krnic. My thoughts and condolences go to his wife and two sons. I am certain that without the hard work of Mr. Krnic many strong chess players in our world, would not have the standing they presently have.

Mr. Krnic was a very strong chess player. According to my database, he drew games against Ulf Andersson
(he also defeated him) ,Duncan Suttles,Mark Taimanov, Leonid Stein, Gyula Sax, Glenn Flear Mikhail Podgaets, Tal, Ribli, Vaganian Bagirov, Gufeld, Oll,Dolmatov, Rozentalis Gulko, Romanishin and Tukmakov among others. In his career he defeated Denker, DeFirmian,Balashov,Korchnoi, and Beliavsky. Rest in peace Mr. Krnic.
