Adolf Anderssen

Hello Everyone!

The mysteries of chess are so many that despite all the computers and technology today we still learn from the games of the masters. Here is one such fantastic game with all kinds of sacrifices. You have to have the nerve to play this kind of a game and a true understanding of chess.

The Immortal Game was played on 21 June 1851 by Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky. Anderssen sacrificed both Rooks, a Bishop and then even his Queen! Actually the game was played during a break in a tournament. Kieseritzky sent the game to his Parisian chess club and the game was first published in the French chess magazine La RĂ©gence in July 1851. This game was however, named thus only in 1855 by the Austrian Ernst Falkbeer.

You can read more details of the game at the wikipedia page but here is the game to run in our pgnplayer or watch it in flash below.
