Sergey Karjakin took home the ACP Rapid Cup on June 2, 2010 after an interesting struggle. The Association of Chess Professionals (ACP) organized the 4th Rapid Chess World Cup in Odessa with a time control of 20 minutes per game and increment of 5 seconds per move.
The 16 player KO included 10 players from the 2700+ club. Each match was best of two with a quicker tie-break when required, Karjakin beat World No. 7 and Russian champion Alexander Grischuk - the top seed - in the semi finals. Karjakin also beat Alexey Shirov in an exciting quarter final. In the final, Karjakin drew six games with Russian Dmitry Jakovenko before beating him in the seventh and final Armageddon Blitz game. And, Karjakin also won a kiss from his wife after receiving the tournament trophy!
Here is the interesting quarter final game for you between Karjakin and Shirov, it's a nice Ruy Lopez.
