A nice view of Beirut, Lebanon
One of the best things about chess is that everyone - no matter what age or intellect level - can enjoy it. You don't have to be a professional to love chess. I have met people who are not professionals but can come up with a real gem of a game at times.
That is why we are watching with interest the 1st Asian Amateur and Seniors Championships that started in Beirut, Lebanon, a few days back. It concludes on June 14. These are new chess tournaments for Asia. Eleven countries are participating in the Championships including Palestine, Syria, UAE, India, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain, Lebanon and Jordan.

Wow. It's nice to know that the world champion does not look down upon amateurs. I am an engineer by profession and never got the change to play chess professionally. It is nice to have tournaments for amateurs too... particularly when a World Champion comes to watch!!!
