Hello Alexandra and Happy New Year to you and your family!! I have a question for you and hopefully you will find the time to answer. I have noticed that you often advise chess players to play the openings both as White and Black. I'm not quite sure what you mean by that, for example, in the audio podcast you talk about playing the Ruy Lopez as Black. What do you mean exactly? Responding to White's moves and learning the principle ideas of 3. Bb5 or something more than that? Many thanks in advance!!

    Hi!
By playing the Ruy Lopez both as white and as black I mean that as white I play 1. e4 and on 1...e5 I continue 2. Nf3 and if 2...Nc6 I play 3. Bb5 the Ruy Lopez. Now as Black against 1. e4 I could play the Sicilian 1...c5 or the Petroff 1...e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 but I prefer to play often 1...e5 and on 2. Nf3 Nc6 hoping for 3. Bb5 where I would play the Ruy Lopez as Black (of course white can play 3. Bc4 and it's an Italian Game but that's fine also for me). I have lots of games played in the Ruy Lopez both as white and as black.
